Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
